| THE MODEL |
| - Selecting a pose - Lighting the room - Training your model - Distance from your subject |

| THE MEDIUM |
| - Surface - Pastel |
Paper luminosity- the zero point. Texture- it's you or the manufacturer. Size- small makes for big headaches. Medium opacity- the 100 point. Layering- why pastels are so unique. Definition- hard versus soft, a brand choice. Subtraction- the kneadable eraser. |

| DRAWING/SEEING |
| - Expectations/Seeing shapes - Ghosting/Grisaille - Flattening/Seeing in 2-D - Values/Darkest to Lightest - Vectoring - Volume |
Measure twice cut once. See the whole, simplify the shapes. Close one eye/Squint/Unfocus. Go from 0-100. Horizontals/Verticals/Diagonals and Distances. The big lie and how to become better at it. |

| COLOR DISSECTION |
| - Seeing color - Starting with a base color - Monochromatic spot coloring - Layering - Temperature/Cool vs. Warm |
Dissect color into it’s constituent parts. Pick a color with midrange value and temperature. Put a little here and a little there. Don't draw, paint. Leave academia for the academics. |

| TECHNIQUES |
| - The essential side stroke - Smudge - Erase - Line - Light pigment on top of dark |
Look for shapes, not edges. Get dirty, wash hands frequently. Paper luminosity is fixative’s friend. Use it to define texture and energy. Create atmosphere and cohesion. |

| PLANNING |
| - Timing - The importance of accuracy - Bravery/Intuition - Intensity/Conviction |
Learn to feed off the pressure. ou can't progress without confidence. Be bold. Attack the surface. Don't ever give up. |
